IT Engineering Apprentice

Apprenticeship Summary

  • Weekly wage £146.25 – £288.75

  • Working week – Mon-Fri 9am to 5.30pm, 1 hour lunch
    Total hours per week: 37.5

The apprentice will learn and understand the following areas of IT support:
  • Storage and Backup Principles – Disk Drive Types and Interfaces to Include but Not Limited to: -SCSI, IDE, SATA, Fibre, Storage Arrays, Fault Finding and Diagnostics
  • Tape Backup Technologies – DAT, LT0 Technology, Tape Libraries & Robots
  • Servers – Intel Based from HP, Dell, IBM: Theory in Operation, Configuration & Fault Finding
  • Networking Principle – Switches, Hubs & Routers,, Configuring & Managing

The successful candidate will spend time in our Wetherby workshop working alongside our existing technical team. On the job training and mentoring will be provided on a wide range of equipment on different IT related technologies.

Following an initial training period the candidate will do on-site (on customer’s sites) training with fellow engineers.

Part of the apprenticeship will involve academic training to level 3 and will be a recognised scheme through York College.

Desired skills

Capability of studying at level 3 with a keen interest in IT solutions and maintenance.

Personal qualities

Candidates must be enthusiastic, willing to listen and learn and work as part of a team.

Desired qualifications

5 GCSEs, (especially English, mathematics and a Science or Technology subject); a relevant Level 2 Apprenticeship; other relevant qualifications and experience; or an aptitude test with a focus on IT skills.

Future prospects

After completing their apprenticeship at the required level they will become part of the field service team. They will also be expected to study and complete on-going technical training programs in-house and with manufacturers.
